Bipolar

Tick tock, tick tock, time keeps marching on.
As slowly night passes to early morning dawn.
Tick tock, tick tock, thoughts swirling in my head.
Awake, I keep tossing to and fro on my bed.

Day after day this is the norm.
Mania keeps me restless and torn.
Bipolar they say is the cause.
Sleep is just a total loss.

In the day I talk about every little thought.
I can’t seem to forget everything I was taught.
I annoy even myself with my plentiful words.
I can’t believe how my mind is absurd.

I’m impulsive and weak and money grows thin,
As I forget my budget and spend on a whim.
Anxiety builds, and I realize my plight.
I’m fidgety and restless and geared for a fight.

Don’t chide me, I might take your head off.
I don’t mean to be cruel; I’ve just had enough.
I feel I am crazy, an absolute nut.
Bipolar surely is a pain in the butt.

Medications help to even my moods,
But nothing is perfect as my mind always broods.
When mania lifts depression sets in.
I dwell on the negative places I’ve been.

Sometimes it is so bad that I give up entirely.
I just can’t fight this fight that I’ve fought priorly.
I can’t do this again and again.
Just give me a break and let this fight end.

The ups and the downs wear on my mind.
Relief is all that I want to find.
Sometimes the only way out seems dim.
But bailing out I cannot do to my kin.

So, I battle on through my many crazy days.
Most days are normal, but those times do fade.
But I’ll continue on and keep adjusting my meds.
And hopefully the thoughts will slow down in my head.

So, while bipolar is rough, it’s not the worst fate.
I’m thankful for life no matter the state.
The support of my loved ones keeps me strong.
With it I’ll keep steadily moving on.
