woman sitting in front of a laptop and making notes

What have I accomplished in my almost 40 years?
I feel like a failure as I stifle back my tears.
I can’t hold a meaningful job to save my life.
Relationships seem filled with conflict and strife.

Anxiety drives me from my cherished dreams.
Depression suffocates my silent screams.
Sure, I’ve done well in some areas that people see.
But not in the areas that matter most to me.

I’m skilled in many ways but my fears hold me back.
I have vast stores of knowledge; in that I don’t lack.
I have interests that spur me to unrealistic goals.
Then reality sets in and takes its dastardly toll.

No one wants dreamers who inspire and create.
Life wants workers, like robots, who continually work late.
Don’t ask any questions and keep straight within the line.
If you are treated unfairly, certainly don’t whine.

I am nothing, a nobody, who has failed to succeed.
Maybe someday I’ll find my true lead.
Writing words on paper fills that void deep inside.
But I feel like these words simply continue to hide.

When will people notice me inside these sounds.
My lyrics continue to cry out to be found.
My words give me purpose and a mission to reach other souls.
So that maybe they too won’t feel so alone.

But who is going to read them? Only a few here and there.
Mostly it is I who will continue to stare.
I stare at my screen, and with words try to sway.
I type letter by letter, day after day.

If my words mean anything, would you do a favor for me?
Send me a word too and share my poems for others to see.
If these words mean nothing, please pass them by.
Blessings to you and may life to you be kind.
