Nighttime

Fluffy cotton candy clouds are nigh.
Brilliant fire in the early evening sky.
Glimmering sterling silver moon up high.
The beginning of another beautiful night.

Shadows grow long and very tall.
Darkness silently begins to fall.
Its arms stretch around one and all.
Tiny sparkling stars appear so small.

Voices speaking, spirits of the woods.
Wolves howling through the hardwoods.
Owls hooting by the tall dogwoods.
Loons calling through the neighborhood.

Lumbering silhouettes of the pines.
Slivers of light across the lake shine.
Mountains towering, rugged alpines.
Slowly losing track of all sense of time.

Quickly the temperature begins to chill.
The world grows quiet and very still.
Sleeping rabbits hide in the daffodils.
Bears are settling in a cave uphill.

We smell subtle hints of thyme.
Other fragrances are also sublime.
There is a specialness about nighttime.
A certain daily magic in our lifetime.
