Fall

Solitary raven sitting high up in the tree,
What do you think when you look down on me?
Crisp autumn breezes toss leaves to and fro.
Barren trees across the sloping landscape that I know.

The calls of the raven to his friends far away,
Are echoed in the stillness of the closing day.
Children are playing in the leaves, raking them in piles.
Laughter rolls through the hills seemingly for miles.

The last warm rays of sunshine give way to artic air.
Winter’s slowly coming and with it, snowy fare.
But for now, winter is held off for just a few more months.
Squirrels frantically gather acorns in all their favorite hunts.

Pumpkins perched on doorsteps dot the village streets.
Laundry in backyards drying, wind caught in the sheets.
Bonfires and s’mores, horses pulling hayrides.
Darkness slowly falling, forcing people inside.

This idyllic scene plays out year after year,
In communities around the glove, both far and near.
Autumn is a time for reflection on the blessings of life.
A time for peace and safety, dispelling conflict and strife.

So, when you see the leaves falling, count the blessings that you have.
Treasure those who are close to you. Breathe, smile and laugh.
Try not to take life too seriously. Troubles can simply wait.
In this moment refresh yourself, forever remember this date.

On this day make a commitment to love yourself more fully,
And with the passing of the seasons, let your troubles free.
