Nighttime Magic

The midnight moon mirrors the sun that looms out of sight.
It’s reflected across the dark lake, waves spreading the light.
Wispy strands of the aurora shoot steadily through the sky.
Frosty hands of cold wrap their fingers around those nearby.

A solo loon hauntingly calls for his family and friends.
The coyotes are howling in the woods over the bend.
The sounds of their calling put an additional chill up the spine.
The smell is musky and woodsy from the lumbering pines.

In this setting, not quite autumn nor winter,
Time seems to stand still as you are a visitor.
Creatures stir in the darkness protected from view.
Tales and legends of Bigfoot on young ears, false or true?

There is a special mystical magic that nighttime implores.
Terrifying and yet intriguing, begging you to explore.
Yet these woods are claimed by the creatures of the night.
To explore through them further lends a small fright.

Needless or warranted, who’s to really say.
But the magic continues until the next day.
