Forgiveness
I watched you as you awoke this morning and got out of your bed.
You found your way into the kitchen and made coffee to clear your head.
I listened to your thoughts as you replayed everything you’d said.
You didn’t want to go to work today as you faced the day with dread.
You climbed into your car and down the road you sped.
Water blinded your vision as stinging tears you shed.
You failed to see your unpredicted fate that laid ahead.
You spiraled out of control, barely missing a truck by a thread.
Had you been a second later, you probably would have been dead.
You paused for a moment and pondered thoughts unsaid.
You turned around your car, and to your house you fled
Work could wait another day, you had better plans instead.
You sat down at your desk with your pen, a paper and a blank letterhead.
You wrote a letter to the one who wronged you, and those words bled.
You continued with your writing as the light flickered overhead.
You knew they’d never ask your forgiveness for the ways that they misled.
You finished your paper and the words you read.
You crumpled up the paper and the words you shred.
I saw you sigh a breath of release and a relaxation was spread.
This new victory quickly in your mind and heart you embed.
