Troubled

Her life is one chaotic struggle after another.
First it started with her father and mother.
Abuse and neglect galore.
Holes in her heart torn.

Family friends were next in line.
More abuse of a sexual kind.
“Was this her fault”, she wondered then.
“Why did this happen again and again?”

Friendships are often riddled with stress.
No one understands her and thinks of her less.
Mental illness is hard to hide.
Much less healing, it’s hard to find.

Marriage also became hard and cold.
Her heart ached and felt worn and old.
A doormat she often became for many.
But for her thoughts, few would give a penny.

Healing is slow sometimes.
But progress continues over time.
More understood now, she’s less alone.
Her life now has a different tone.
